Review: Cape Fear Miniseries

I didn’t want to watch this, as you know, but Gary did, and I didn’t want to leave Gary alone all day because that would have been a full week of spending no free time with him at all.

I figured I would stage a mild protest if it got too creepy.

We’re on episode six, so I’m nowhere near the potential creepy raw egg scene, butso far it hasn’t come close to the high creep-quotient of the ‘62 version.

I suppose that’s mainly because the old movie made the villain relentlessly intent on torturing Gregory Peck’s perfect family, and in this version the perfect family is all kinds of dysfunctional.

Martin Scorecese directed the 1991 version and he executive-produced this. It would have been really cool if it had the usual Scorsese narrator treatment, like Goodfellas and Casino.

I can’t say I’m enjoying it, but I’m able to watch it without solid anxiety every minute. I really worried about Gregory Peck, whereas these people … not so much.
