Weekly Paint Progress: 6/20

This week Mom on a Boat went from this:

… to this.

When it started as this:

Wow. I really don’t like this one at allllll. Well, I like it, except for her face. Maybe I should start over and just zoom in on her smile? I missed the tilt entirely.

Damnit. I hate to do this, but I see a square canvas with just her face with a palette of brown and reds.

  1. Totally endorse painting whatever you want to paint, and yes, getting her face right may take a couple of attempts and that is *fine* – you keep learning things and getting better at this, so why not? 🙂

  2. KC – I did have to get to know the planes of Gary’s face. I don’t know how I lost track of the tilt of her head and smile. That one is going in the trash, lifesaver nonwithstanding.

  3. Lisa – I have so much trouble painting or drawing people I love. Maybe I just try too hard to capture what I love about them. And did you actually see the middle photo? There may be a small blue thing you have to click. You might not have seen the way Mom now looks drunk and demented.
At any rate, the next one will be better and faster. (But thank you.)
