This week the mandolin went from this:
… to this.

The representational part is almost done, just need the strings on the mandolin. The draped part needs to be looser and blurrier. The vase is still a little off. Overall I’m pleased so far.

I think the vase looks great. All in all, it is very impressive. I can’t wait to see the draping take shape.
I think the vase is fine now; it may not be photorealistic, but it doesn’t look off (which is, in itself, amazing since it’s asymmetrical and just… ugh to representing things that are not *quite* how the brain thinks they are or should be).
(agreed about the background, and while I have no idea how one would do that, I can tell that you do!)
AH- The draping is going to be where things go south, because much of it is imagined.Plus, if it is realistic it will take away from the rest of it.
KC – it does look vase-like. It’s just the croquet ball is exact. But if course, a ball is not open to interpretation. But I am going to leave the vase alone.
