Weekly Paint Progress: 12/30

This week the Ball pitcher went from this …

F4024325-93BF-4A6A-9AC7-971084E6EEE3

… to this:

9E382CC6-2E4E-4305-8B2D-310982CE9630

Some parts I preferred before. The new cartoon contrast nature of the handle is distracting. Plus the way the bottom peony is shaded now suggests it needs a stem. Oops.

Well, I’ll patch up those problems and then the table needs a wash of black on top of the brown, and that will be that.

All I can say is that these peonies do not appear to be made of bologna like the ones from January.

  1. Hooray for non-bologna peonies! Also, the table feels more like it’s making sense now.
Maybe the oddly-tilted peony was a secondary peony on a branch (if that even happens with peonies) and the primary peony got cut off, so now the branch goes down and then forks back upwards? (but yes, this is one of the problems with paintings, as with fiction: it needs to be ever so slightly *more* plausible than real life things with their weirdo quirks or it doesn’t look “right”)
