Elsewhere

In the last thirty-odd years, I often get the urge to sleep elsewhere. I slept elsewhere in Maui on the honeymoon. After that we would travel every other year when we could, even someplace small like an overnight in Kansas City. After Gary retired we started to get away twice a year, with day trips every weekend.

Now, every day I wake up in the same bed and stare at a reminder of the last vacation I took.

When I would get the itch to sleep elsewhere I could satisfy it by planning our next trip. Not taking the trip, quite yet, but we’d talk about where we wanted to go next, look at travel sites, see where our airline miles would take us.

Now, of course, that is not an option, even to dream about, because herd immunity is far away, farther away than any place I could go.

Strangely, Facebook sensed my needs and offered up some real estate sites. Sleeping in the same bed in a different house would take care of the itch. And of course after I looked at Homes Over 19 Million in Your Area (as if) it also showed Homes Under $50,000 and Apartment Therapy. So far those have been scratching the itch.

Only, what is the deal with the grey walls lately, people? Why? Is it the pandemic? Do you want to be reminded of the Black Death?

  1. They finally overdosed on white walls and this is the reaction? Not sure…
(have you considered renting an RV, or is that a No Way with Gary?)

  2. KC – well, all our cars have been compact – and the one time we drove a moving van was terrifying. We’d see an RV as too big to drive.
