Census

I can’t wait for the census.

I don’t know why I find it thrilling – perhaps because perhaps because it’s so infrequent, perhaps because it’s a tangible effect of the Constitution, perhaps because even the Virgin Mary had to fill out her census form.

I recall the 1990 census as the first census I ever filled out. The 2000 and 2010 census run together in my mind. It was newsprint and Gary and I filled it out in pencil, afraid of making a mistake. (I apologize to my descendants on Ancestry.com who will not be able to see my faded pencil scrawl – oh, wait. No descendants. Well, there you are then.)

Evidently this year they are adding an option for some to fill out the form online or by phone. I don’t approve of this, at all, because I am old, and still write checks, you damn kids, etc.
