Gary and I went to see The Art of Self-Defense. They need a new genre for this movie. “Dark comedy” is not dark enough. Not even “Black comedy.” Perhaps “Comedy Noir” or “Hershey’s Special Dark Comedy.”
Frankly, it is so dark you can’t really tell it’s a comedy until well into it. Then of course, you are so astonished and thankful for the humor that you laugh desperately.
I enjoyed it, even though … well … no spoilers.
