Thirty

The next two weeks will be book-ended by two bridal showers for my niece, and in the middle is a trip to Chicago to celebrate our thirtieth anniversary. I can’t even remember thirty years ago. Back in ’85, it had been six whole years since Affirmed won the Triple Crown, our years began with a one, gas was $1.20.

Technically, the thirty year gift is pearl. Pah, pearls. I’d rather have Chicago.

And because a trip to Chicago didn’t adequately express our luuuuvvvv, we tacked on a pre-trip to Springfield Illinois. It’ll break up the drive to Chicago.

Speaking of thirty, I’ve lost thirty pounds since February. It hasn’t really even been that difficult. I count calories and exercise and as long as I get in seven servings of fruits and vegetables first, I eat what I want up to 1200 calories. Chicago will be a new challenge. Instead of 1200 calories, I’m pushing it to 1800. Let’s see if I can find the spot between Spartan diet and Bacchanalian orgy.

THIS trip to Chicago will be unique in that we will have TWO non-museum activities: the river cruise and Second City. The rest of the time will of course be spent in the Art Institute, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and all the usual haunts.

And yes, yes, there’s a BNL concert. Is it my thirtieth BNL concert? Probably.

  1. Wow! I Googled “bnl”, too, just to see what came up, and the true answer is halfway down the page, and just one hit. Queen, you have to fix that! Rally the forces to click on it to bring it higher in the search order!
(Suburban, you need to refine your search arguments. Try “bnl concert”.)
Congratulations on the weight loss. Calories are the answer, of course. Seven servings of fruit will kick me way over my limit right off the bat. Maybe a new wardrobe is in order? A little Chicago shopping, too?

  2. Beware! At Second City, don’t sit on the central aisle near the middle under that noticeably brighter light. Or, halfway through the evening, you will find yourself onstage playing Wolverine in a cosplay sketch. Unless that’s what floats your boat, of course…

  3. Sounds amazing – hope you have a fantastic trip! I’m impressed at your 1200 calorie level. I’m trying to lose a little weight right now but anything less than 1600 calories and I’m a snarling mass of bitterness and hunger all day long. GROWL.

  4. “Let’s see if I can find the spot between Spartan diet and Bacchanalian orgy.” made me LOL. I wish I could find that spot myself!

  5. Suburbancorrespondent – Really? I’ve never referred to Barenaked Ladies by the familiar name? Remarkable.~~Silk – Well, I bought a new pair of jeans, which feature in the Second City tale, that you will hear about next.Big Dot – We were at the theater on North Wells, so there was no aisle. However, due to some heroic activities on our part, which you will hear about later, we got front row dead center. Lynn – This is the first time I’ve relied on fruits and vegetables for the majority of my food. I haven’t been hungry.jessica fantastica – I did not. I went straight for the orgy. Gained four pounds, but only one actual pound that stayed after a week.Hattie – Welll – there were nice parts. There was a bug by my Nespresso machine today and I thought of Terry.Judibleu – VERY long time! I thought you’d stopped blogging, but I’m glad to see your outrage lives on.
