WARNING: DISTURBING IMAGES OF AN EYEBALL.

I left at three to take the dog for a checkup. (FYI, the dog is skinnier than he has been in years; maybe his butt just looks big because the rest has shrunk.) I stopped off to say good bye to Marcia.

This is Marcia, in case you haven’t seen her in the last one hundred plus pounds:

Smile

“Bye Marcia, I’m taking Mac to the vet.”

Sad

I felt strangely patriotic looking at Marcia’s eye red white and blue eye. “Uh – what’s wrong with your eye?”

“Oh,” she said, “You mean this?”

Eye

Yeah, the blood dripping inside your eyeball? That? YES THAT. (Ignore the manicure. She regrets it. I thought it was festive.) I had to look away. Then I had to take a photo.

Justeye

I KNOW. She called her eye doctor’s receptionist, who blew it off, and so Marcia blew it off. She said she was blow drying her hair last night with her head hanging down, that’s what must have done it.

Yeeks. I’d be at the doctor’s office demanding to know what had impaled me in the eye.

  1. My sister had that. Her doc blew it off, too. Her eye turned almost totally red within a couple of days. Then it slowly got better. The yellow phase was actually almost worse than the red, though. She did nothing, not even blow drying her hair with her head upside down, and her doc said, “Huh. Sometimes that just happens.” (She, and I, were both suitably horrified. She won’t let me share the pic, though.)

  2. OOooookay that’s pretty dramatic. Had it been me, I would have worked it into a sympathy ploy and gotten free ice cream out of someone.
But you never know with eyeballs.

  3. Gayle – Did you google Subconjunctival hemorrhage images? Gaaaaah. I have a strong stomach and I almost can’t look at Marcia’s eyeball.
Murphy Jacobs – Oh, I would have milked it too. You can’t let a gift like that float by.

  4. Did I Google subconjunctival hemorrhage images? But of course! I told my sister I thought she had a contender with hers … truly freaky.

  5. I am shocked that Marcia couldn’t make the completely blood-red eye happen for you! 😉 Yes, my sister’s eye did go completely red. She took to wearing tinted glasses indoors because that was better than having no story about how it happened. People who see a blood-red eyeball are almost uniformly compelled to ask, “WHAT HAPPENED?” with tones of horror in their voice. My sister got tired of saying, “Nothing. I just woke up this way.” Also, her saying that scared some people. It would have been better had it happened around Halloween.

Comment, even if you aren’t on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
