Ah! That’s What I Need

Shortly before Dad died, he and Mom were talking about Mom retiring. He was an old hand at the retirement game, and he told her, “Every day, do two things: get dressed and have something to look forward to.”

I need to follow that advice. Well, not the first part. I don’t think anyone needs to get dressed every day. Pajamas are fine if you’re staying in for the weekend. Screw the first part.

As for the second part? I think that’s what I’ve been missing lately: something to look forward to.

Travel

I had the wedding in Detroit to look forward to, but that didn’t happen because of Gary’s back. I was looking forward to a big vacation, but we still need to get Gary’s lungs sorted out. In addition, Gary’s feeling tentative about finances, so he’s imposed a spending cap for any potential vacation which is half of what I’d budgeted as the low-end vacation alternative.

I think it was pretty clear I had too broad a canvas for the vacation plans. Now that I have some limitations, I can focus.

Tickets

I’ve got tickets printed out for Ingrid Michaelson at the Pageant, and you know my favorite Hiro Sushi is right there by the Pageant. That’s mid-July, just a few weeks away. We’ve got VIP tickets for the Chinese Lantern Exhibit at the Botanical Gardens. That’ll need to wait till next week – temperature’s getting into the triple digits this week.

Baseball

But of course, I’ve had those Ingrid Michaelson tickets for months and they haven’t sustained me. What WILL sustain me is the tickets my beloved TeddyJ deposited on my desk this morning. Seems I won a drawing at work and Gary and I get to go to the “Green” seats at Busch Stadium in a few weeks. We aren’t directly behind the batter, but we will have foul balls flying 90 mph at our faces. And paid parking. And waiters bringing us hot dogs. And air conditioning in the lounge. This sustains me.

Shoes

Really, I think that’s why I’ve been buying all these shoes. I need to look forward to those shoeboxes showing up on my porch. I don’t need the shoes; I need at least four things to look forward to.

  1. OMG, the green seats! I sat there last month courtesy of a friend and I ate so well at the indoor buffet that I couldn’t even eat a hot dog. Plus they came with amazing parking!

  2. That’s why I shop online when I’m feeling down. Online, not in brick and mortar, so that…
!!I get presents in the mail for days and days!!

  3. I need to know if hotdogs taste better in the green seats. Can you order them well done there? Hotdogs should always be well done.

  4. Amy in StL – I assumed the parking was just on the bottom floor of the parking garage. I don’t even know of any closer parking.
~~Silk – I have two presents heading my way right now. Just a blouse and orthotics footbeds.
Caroline – You know what hotdogs do to me. Are there private bathrooms in the green seats?

  5. We parked under the overpass which is directly across from the gate for that section. There was a parking hangtag for Lot C – apparently they’re lobbying for Lot B parking next year.

  6. Magpie -Only one box. So no.AmyinStL- I just looked that up on Google Earth. That is pretty sweet. EE! I’m so excited.
