Live Blogging the Miner Show 9:36 – 10:16

9:36 – Eeeee! There it is! The capsule is in the mine shaft. Nice to have a video camera down there.

9:37 – Dumbass, stop honking your horn.

9:39 – Okay, I can see that puking might be fatal if a miner were positioned the wrong way, but they really want a camera trained on the miner’s face in case he starts to panic? What will they do? Speak gently to him? To the claustrophobic miner? Didn’t they see The Great Escape? Does Charles Bronson ever get out?

9:43 – Oh hi, shirtless miners.

9:51 – Well, I saw how NASA put “Chile” on the side of the capsule poiting to the camera, as they did with “USA” on Apollo 11. Now there’s a Chilean flag against the cave wall. Chile product placement.

9:56 – Anderson just chuckled at the decision to cut to the pulley, then to the cave, then the pulley. Cause and Effect! Yes! I get it.

10:01 – The big question: will CNN play the Big Breaking News logo when the first miner emerges? And the same for all 33?

10:06 – Miner on the surface – oh, fuck, false alarm? Who did that?

10:10 – Okay, real 2 minute warning.

10:12 — Woooo! Miner on the surface!

10:16 – Thumbs up from miner #1!

Well, the question now is when do I go to bed? Two miners? Three miners? Maybe just two more miners.

  1. I was just debating the acceptability of calling in sick after a night of miner-watching, but I do have a half day Thursday and day off Friday, so perhaps I should work tomorrow.Yay, first miner and family!I’m amazed at how well it seems the guys underground are doing right now. Pretty amazing how this has all come together.

  2. Glad I’m not the only one enthralled by this. It’s like live sci-fi! Anybody else surprised by how clean the men appear?

  3. Man, insurance quote spammers just can’t spell.
I heard a reporter this morning explaining that the miners had requested grooming products so that they could appear their best on TV once rescued. For realz!

  4. Oakley or however it is spelled donated the sunglasses. No one with a shoulder width greater than 22 inches is getting out. Santa would be stuck down there. Come to think of it I might too.
Notice how they were all the same color as Commander Data?

  5. Friend 8 – I know! Evidently they got razors three days ago. sr88 – MinErs.Tami – But the foreman, the last out, had a pretty scruffy beard.Zayrina – No, but I noticed the president of Chile is very do-able.Hattie – But there was a explosion! Months ago. Oh, and there were helicopters flying each to the hospital, because there was a concern they might not be able to fly in the fog. Two out of three! What – dude, you got here from a Search for “36 miners.” I was way down on the first page, and the “36” only came up because I had :36 in the title. Do a search for “33 miners” and see what happens. But, on the off chance there were 36, not 33, I’m sorry.

  6. I get what What is saying. They news all says 33 because that’s how many miners there were. There were all rescuers that went in voluntarily and no one kept count of them in the people being retrieved. I think they’re worth counting. It’s not just anyone that volunteers to go into a situation like that.

  7. Hattie – so … big Die Hard fan? Or was that True Lies?Caroline – There were five rescuers. So 38, still not 36.
