This Is My Rock and Roll Lifestyle

First off, I woke up today at 10:00 in the morning.

(I was planning to go to bed last night at 9, but then Gary cooed,

“Tudors?”

… so I got my laptop and we watched The Tudors, the only show we watch with a Wikipedia tab open.

The first time we watched it the Queen was Catherine Howard, and I remembered teaching my 9th graders she was ditzy and had slumber parties at the palace. Evidently that gave me credibilty and Gary now thinks I know who all these people are. Wikipedia helps, as does my beloved The History of England in Words of One Syllable.)

So, when I saw it was 10:00, I hurled myself through the shower and closet in one fluid motion to the car, where I discovered I was low on gas.

The end of the road was at least three miles away at this point, and the Mini tells me I can make it one mile.

Happily, I live on a hill, so I turned off the air conditioner and coasted.

Still, this was how it read at the pump:

I felt very rock-and-roll. I felt Fountains of Wayne should write a song about my morning. Something with my Mini having two doors, and Tudors, and hitting the wood floors, and floor boards.

(P.S. Does it bother anyone else when there is a fire crackling in the hearth on The Tudors? With the new Valentine’s Day Speaker System it sounds like my kitchen’s on fire.)

  1. I completely miss the Fountains of Wayne store. It was always such a cheerful sight, coming around the bend on that off-ramp.
    *sniff*
Your adventure has made me nostalgic and weepy; it’s not at all the hormones.

  2. I lived near Fountains of Wayne for a long, long time before I ran away to Florida. I am still undecided about how cool naming your band after a place where my mom bought a yard urn really is.
Btw- I found you via Katies blog via Overflowing Brain. I like you, I’ll come back.

  3. I hate those days when I wake up late; because in addition to a quick shower and dressing in the first thing I pull out; I still have to walk the dog. Which I did this morning along with getting gas – although after I got gas (even though my non-fancy gauge was on e) I realized I had probably two more gallons before I would have beat my previous low gas record. Which means I could have gotten gas after work, in downtown by the projects. Which I always find fun.

  4. Becs – Meet Elisabeth! She went from New Jersey to Florida – you lived in both states, too, right?Tami – Everyone is synched up and is having a hormone flux today. Elisabeth (Hi, Elisabeth, and welcome ) – Oh, darn, if you got here from her comments that means you’ve already seen the premise of tonight’s post.Amy in StL – Not the gas station and projects by Ralston-Purina by any chance?

  5. Yep, that’s the gas station. Some seriously good people watching there. Although I refuse to get gas the the one by the Rally’s because a fellow employee got offered jewelry while getting gas there. I don’t need more opportunities to impulse buy!

  6. Amy_in_StL – Yes, that was my gas station. Yes, I’d avoid shopping at the gas station. Of course, Gary thinks anything advertised on eBay as “New With Tags” is shoplifted.
