Everybody Leaves

I am dismayed. Dismayed, I tell you! Sue, the woman who has styled my hair for twenty-five years, is leaving the biz.

I like the way Sue does my hair. She guarantees my loyalty by telling me at least once a year that I have one of the top three most difficult heads of hair she has to deal with. My hair breaks, is fine, has curl, has cowlicks, and never lays right. “Ellen, your hair is crap!” That’s why I’ve stayed loyal to her.

To be honest, I was unfaithful to Sue once in that twenty-five year period. When I was making enough money to believe that you can throw money at a problem and fix it, I had a brief fling with Jon Phillips (at that time the trendy Saint Louis hair stylist). The stylist there was known for cutting fine, frizzy hair. Then she went off to Jefferson City and I slunk back to Sue.

In twenty years a person learns all the secrets of your head. Recently I got a slamming do from Sue. It involved “stacking” the back of my hair. Since that time, I can look at the back of my head and think “Hey, that looks like normal hair.”

So next month I have to break in another new crotch doctor (the estimable Dr. Tse has gone) and start training another stylist. Anyone know of a good one in the Saint Louis metro area?

  1. I love Tracy, but haven’t been to her in far too long. I strayed last fall and regret it. Problem is Tracy is in south county and only works T/Th evenings and every other Saturday. And I have a hot dentist if you’re ever in the market.
