Guitar Setback

The Guitar Gods have punished me for my hubris. I had my hand arched over a crusty roll, cutting it with a sharp knife, and the knife slipped off the crust and filleted my thumb. Not my bad thumb, which is actually the extra backup third thumb, since they took off the good thumb of the right hand during the extra thumb-ectomy when I was a baby.

On the other hand (ha) every time I give myself a thumbs-up I will see a little smiley face on the inside of the knuckle.I did not get stitches, though the second time I summoned the nerve to look at it…well. It’s a big gouge. This was my left thumb, key in gripping the head of the guitar. I’m sure other musicians have thumb gouges and can play through the pain. I’m sure I will be able to play the guitar again. However, not this week.
