Slow armadillo invasion

Over the weekend I was tooling along the winding country road that leads to acceptable bagels, an oxymoron if I ever heard one, and I called Gary with this report:

“Dead armadillo where the subdivision hits the road. Repeat. Dead armadillo.”

We saw one as we drove to Memphis in 2007, then heard of another 16 miles south, then another 3 miles from our house. This one on the weekend was half a mile away.

I know the summer bears are on a pilgrimage to see us but according to Smithsonian Magazine the armadillos are heading further north. Today there’s a darling article about armadillos and how they’re as far north as Ohio.
