Pre-Opera: Don Pasquale

Food: We ate again at Big Sky Cafe. For the reliability. We know all the dishes. We’ve had all the desserts. And now? They’ve switched up the entire top middle of the menu. This is the second time this season this has happened at a place we ate. Why? Tarrifs?

The final SalmonPants Update: SalmonPants paired his dark salmon jacket with indescript navy pants and a turquoise POLO SHIRT which precluded any tie: salmon, bow, clip-on, anything. I almost feel like he’s baiting me.

Continuity:This was lovely — for the fiftieth anniversary of the opera theater, they brought in the singer who played the female lead in Don Pasquale fifty years ago in their opening season and gave her a part in almost every scene. On the way in I asked the usher what role she was going to play.

“The Old Lady” he answered.

I repeated “THE OLD LADY” with such horror that he reversed himself.

“The … The Barkeeper.”

“All right, then,” I said.

The usher was wrong, actually she played the role of The Notary. Plus, they incorporated her at the end as well, which made Don Pasquale have a much more uplifting ending.
