I have had enough of being home-bound, getting things for Gary, turning on fans, driving to appointments.
So today I bolted. I said I was going to Walgreens to pick up a prescription for him, but I was going another place first, so it might take a few hours.
I made it sound like an errand. Behind his back, I took myself to the zoo, where there are two new polar bears and a baby elephant.
And because Gary wasn’t there, I parked like this.
At first all I saw of the bears was one butt, and had it not wiggled I would have thought it a rock.
Then I went on a baby elephant hunt, and come to find out he was taking a personal day, literally not on display, plus there’s construction and it’s almost impossible to get to him anyway.
So I was a little disappointed, having walked in a circle, and then found myself back at the polar bears, who were now out.
I waved my arms at that bear and said, “I came a long way.” He rolled over in response.

Zooooooo! (were there otters? I love otters. or other things? or were you there Just for the bears and the disappointingly shy baby elephant?)
KC -I think they were at the Children’s Zoo, which closed during Covid. Next year there’s going to be a big new interactive area where you can indirectly help beavers build dams and such, and the otters will “return.”

Hey! I know those Polar bears!! fun fact, I am a huge zoo nerd, I even volunteer here at the Detroit Zoo. Kalik and Kalu were born at the Toledo zoo, and I have visited them several times, in addition to watching them for MONTHS on a live web cam before they were ready to be out on habitat, Their dad, Nuka, actually lives here. He was “on assignment” in Toledo for awhile a few years back. 😉
Kristie – That is so cool! and our previous polar bear, Kali, went to Toledo. So I guess there was a bear swap. Two small bears for one big bear?
So it seems, though the last time I saw them they were about the same size as their mama! I hope to “meet” Kali sometime soon, but they are currently making some minor changes to the polar bear habitat so he hasn’t made his public debut in Toledo yet,
Kristie – Oh that’s a shame. I hope he still has all that energy he had ten years ago. I will always remember Kali as the bear that ran so fast to get to the food.
