Back to More I Love Yous

Gary was particularly difficult yesterday. He would not swerve from the topic of the particulate matter the recent construction left behind. He claimed that all mitigation attempts just kick up more of the dread gypsum dust. I begged him to change the subject. He changed to politics, the other topic he wont let go, then when he was heading toward how the Republicans are responsible for the dust, I left the room.

Later, as I was falling asleep, I heard him outside my door, cooing, “I love you so much. You are so special to me. Do you know how much I love you?” And my heart melted a little until I realized he was talking to the cat.

  1. … as much as Republicans *are* currently responsible for, I’m dubious about the dust, unless he thinks that with better regulation there would be less dust?
(also: if filters are capturing dust, isn’t that not just stirring it up? and does he have any symptoms from the dust, or is it a general worry about potential future lung trouble or something, or does he need more hobbies?)
Glad that Goldie is at least getting some affection, but also… sigh.

  2. KC – Regulation – That’s precisely the logic. The devices with the HEPA filters that pull the dust in are acceptable but when you move the device through the hall, that disrupts the dust on the floor, and the vibration of the floor when you use it makes dust rain off the ceiling. Also, the dust is invisible.

  3. So fundamentally he thinks that without Republicans, sheetrock would be… made from something else?
(but also: the filters are eating any dust out of the air. it’ll be gone eventually, esp. if the filters are also stirring it up!)
Has he considered just wearing an n95 mask?
