I remember when my brother was first diagnosed as bipolar, he told my Mom he’d had a blood test that proved the diagnosis. She didn’t buy it and still stuck to her diagnosis, which was that he was just a jackass.
Evidently there really is now a blood test for bipolar.

To myself – it’s been a week and a day and it just occurs to me that I could get this test, to ease my mind that the ten year old diagnosis is wrong.
Since there’s some genetics involved in bipolar, if I recall correctly, I’d want to check with a doctor that the blood test isn’t checking for *that* – things that just *correlate* with having some of the genetic markers for bipolar – but is actually checking for bipolar itself, because otherwise you might get a problematic false positive.
But also yes! That is a brilliant idea, if the test is available to you and does check for active bipolar (and has low false positives).
Evidently it looks for metabolites, and those really just prove the mania part.
