I used my Intro to Baskets kit and I did indeed make a wee Navel-Orange sized basket.
Lots of flaws, but it IS a basket. It was pretty soothing, as one would expect from the stereotypical mental hospital hobby.

Congratulations! Is the bottom also woven, or a flat piece of wood? (I have a fondness for all-woven, but have seen kits go either way, and it does seem like it might be really mean to make beginners deal with increasing spokes, especially *at the very beginning* of the piece? and yet I have not trusted that they would look nice, with solid wooden bottoms, but if this has one, then it looks more plausible…)
KC – it is all woven, but my husband pointed out, it does not look good.
Did you find the most photogenic camera angle possible such that this photo is not truly representative of the basket, or is it just not absolutely Perfect in symmetry, etc?
KC – well, you cannot see the bottom. Also, this was the best side, but you will notice that the V edging on the rim does not look right on the opposite interior. Plus the bottom middle has a gap.
It’s a functional basket, and from one angle even attractive, *and* it’s a first attempt, *and* done with no in-person teaching (I assume Gary is not an expert basket-weaver), so I think it’s pretty solidly impressive.
Maybe your next one will be perfect, if you yearn for the soothing experience again. 🙂
KC – the tiny basket took about 90 minutes. It made me want to make huge sculptural baskets. Like “It’s a elephant!’” “And it’s a basket!” I think I’ll just reserve basket making for retirement.
