Bumped Again

Well, maybe not “bumped” again, given that I’m really just clarifying the definitions of the vaccination tiers.

It seems that in Missouri:

  • If you take an immune-suppressant so you don’t reject your organ transplant, then you move up in the list.
  • If you take an immune-suppressant because you have an auto-immune disease, then you don’t.

Do I want to know how they split that hair? I’m imagining the debate. “We’ve invested lots of time installing those kidneys: those people can’t die. Those auto-immune people are already just running out the clock.”

More likely, there are just too many people with MS, RA, and all the other diseases that require that you knock out your immune system, compared to how many people have had an organ upgrade — sorry, compared to how many people have had live-saving organ transplants.

And then on top of that, CNN has decided to put this number in my face every day just to rub it in.

  1. But the “just running out the clock” thing doesn’t work, since the elderly are also a high-priority category (unless they aren’t, in Missouri?).
I wonder if someone thought that people with autoimmune diseases could choose to just stop taking the immunosuppressant meds. (some might be able to with substantial quality-of-life hits, some definitely can’t) Or whether they’re maybe just trying to keep the category small so that they can have Triumph when a phase is completed? I do not know…
Also, yikes: there is a lot of distance between there and US population…

  2. I was thinking hospitalizations. Maybe they’re thinking someone w a transplant would take up a bed more likely than someone with RA?

  3. Jessica – that’s clever! But also we may be reading logic into a process not positively noted for logic. 🙂

  4. KC – oh yes, the elderly are high priority. I did ask my doctor if it would be a good idea to not take my meds for ten days and that was a flat no.
Jessica Fantastica – your theory makes sense to me. And another thing I didn’t think of, I still have half an immune system and it’s possible organ transplants have zero.
