Way back pre-pandemic we would go to the doctor and have machines check our vitals. Then Gary got sick, and he got a blood oxygen meter. Then he got one of those fingertip electrocardiographs, and we both played with that for a day. Now he has added a home blood pressure machine to his collection.
I asked, “When’s the home EEG machine coming?”
He said, “We need a home MRI first.”

I think the home EEGs are more… feasible… than MRIs.

That would be amazing, though. Can you imagine the movie scene when the home scientist, after years of working on this in the basement, warms up the MRI he’s finally built and a cast-iron pan comes smashing through the floor into the basement and leaves an impact crater on his new machine?
They probably have some sort of shielding to prevent that, though. But yes. There *are* toy home EEG machines – I’ve never seen an at-home MRI gizmo (even x-rays have gone out of style, for some odd reason…).
