Mindful TV Viewing

At times, Gary becomes self-aware, realizes he’s in emotional pain, and takes steps to take care of himself. Most recently he has realized that watching the news all day is not good for his emotional health. As a result, he will watch the news, yell at the news once, keep watching, then yell at the news again, and then before he yells a third time he switches over to tennis.

So now when I come home, either I hear a dour review of This Day In Politics, or an enthusiastic review of This Day In Tennis.

On the other hand, I have followed the path of so many I know and have started re-watching The West Wing, which was like soft-core political porn two decades ago. Usually morals in society loosen and what was soft-core porn becomes mainstream. In the current political environment, The West Wing has gone the other direction and seems like triple-X smut. A government that cooperates, the press secretary doesn’t lie, the President is rational, ooh, kinky. And almost laughable. Like a Penthouse letter. “Dear Penthouse, you’ll never believe this but I’m the President of the United States, and the other night I saved Social Security.”
