And that man is … Gary!
And the something he wants me to do is … buy an adjustable bed!
That’s the end though, is it not? Some people say the end is the day they get the AARP card. But I say it’s the bed.
I do still make a shaky guttural sound when I remember how we jackknifed Gary’s bed, covered each corner with the fitted sheet, then lowered it and watched the fitted sheet get taut. Yum. (Shudders with pleasure.)
I don’t know why he wants me to turn my little twin guest bed into a tortilla-flipping device. Maybe he wants to trade rooms? Maybe the queen bed is too empty now that he’s lost 100 plus pounds?
I don’t feel ready for this.

… see, adjustable beds sound magic to me, and I am maybe decades younger than you. Like big cushy recliners, except *beds*! Reading in bed! Ability to adjust things if you need to elevate a body part because it’s been mildly injured! Ability to just adjust things if you want to!
Also the fitted sheet thing is appealing.
KC – Yes, but pillows can do all those things. Except for the fitted sheet part.
If you can, keep a separate non-adjustable bed.
A few years ago, when we needed a new mattress really desperately, the Common Household Husband lobbied strenuously for what I call our “foldable” bed. He thought it would be better for his back. I am a side sleeper and I knew I could never sleep comfortably for a long time with the bed “folded”. We made an agreement that we would always start out with the bed flat. And I lobbied for and got my $80 pillow which is just super fantastic for me.
Now, his back pain is so bad that he can’t sleep unless the bed is folded. And my pulsatile tinnitus is so bad that I must lie flat on my left side. And supposedly I now snore (which bothers him, not me). So I usually end up in the guest bed.
However, it is quite nice when just reading, to put the foldable bed on the “zero G” setting, which is: head elevated, butt not elevated, knees elevated, feet not elevated.
It is A LOT harder to get the sheets on the mattress now.
And that is more about our bed than I am ever willing to put on my own blog.
CHM – I never thought about being a side sleeper, which I am, but I know that I begin propped up by pillows until I feel ready for sleep and then I get on my side. It seems like I could still do that. I know Gary adjusts his bed numerous times a night. Flat, folded, zero g.
It’s very handy that we don’t share a bed.Hard to hear about the sheets, only to be honest I sleep between the fitted sheet and the duvet, no sheets at all.
