Government Shutdown

I know I’m being paranoid, but consider this:

Missouri has called out the national guard to help with the snow disaster.

The police are not patrolling in Saint Louis City due to the weather.

Highway 70 is shut down all through the middle of the state. Hundreds of miles. No highway.

The weather.com radar map.Blue- snow, pink – ice.

Icemap

And I would swallow it all whole, but then I look outside. There is only a quarter inch of ice on my trees, a half inch of sleet on my patio, and an inch of powdery snow on top. This is not life-threatening. This not a blizzard. A blizzard of bullshit, maybe.

So I ask myself, why is the government trapping us inside under false pretenses? Is the Egyptian president flying here and they had to close the airspace? Was there a nerve gas spill?

I just say this to the people in Australia: I would be very sceptical about that Cat 5 hurricane headed at you.

  1. TV news here is showing the “horrific blizzard conditions” and “deep snow” in Chicago. Behind the reporter, across the street, I can see the base of the lamp posts.
    The base.

  2. I have to agree…this whole thing smells a little. My office was officially closed for today as of yesterday afternoon, and Gov Walker has apparently labelled half of WI a disaster area. As for us, we look outside and see good sledding conditions. Hmmmm.

  3. Here’s a thought – NYC blew it on the storm after Christmas, and they are now being pelted with lawsuits. “You didn’t declare a snow emergency, so my boss said I had to go to work even though you didn’t plow the roads, and I got crashed and smashed/stuck on a train for 10 hours/towed and impounded/whatever, and it’s all your fault – so pay me a gazillion dollars.” Maybe the authorities are simply afraid of calling it wrong and being sued.
Heck, we’re Americans. We love to sue everyone.

  4. It was very bad in Central Illinois. We got 14-16″ total snow and very high winds. The roads are still very bad at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday.

  5. Silk – Well, the photo that eventually ame out with the cars along Lakeshore drive did look compelling. Mare – It does smell! Do they get money for disaster areas? Silk -I think you’ve got it. And the newscasters don’t want to be sued.Benchmark – It was so lame here Weds that my employer questioned if they should pay people who worked at home. Instead, they are granting an extra personal day to those who came in. I almost came in, too, dangit. I could have gotten a kickback.Hattie – Hmmm, I don’t see any drifts in our yard. I really think it must be lawsuit fear, as Silk suggests.
