Tea-minus one day

My husband had his yearly pre-tea panic today, since the tea is tomorrow. Every year when it gets twenty-four hours from the tea he takes a sudden interest and revises the menu.

“We have no food!”
“Really, Gary, very few people are coming. Most people have plans. There will only be about fifteen at most.”
“It doesn’t matter how many people come. The table must be full. The must be an abundance of food!”

Every year, the same speech. Fine, so there will be an abundance. Before Gary got involved, the “Foods In Disguise” menu was:
Pigs in Blankets
Strawberries dipped in chocolate tuxedos
Mock Turtle soup
Meringues
Broccoli soup with a Special Secret Ingredient (just Asiago cheese)
Scones
Cornbread (cooked in the pan that makes them look like little precious ears of corn)
A variety of tarts, etc.
Eclairs and Cream puffs
Mixed drink Popsicles

(Nope, no Eat Me Cake on the menu, because kids will be there.)

So Gary feel this is NOT enough FOOD for fifteen people so today he picked up a ham, a turkey, and five kinds of rolls. FIVE. Fiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeee, she breathed, and now he is out agaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiin, buying more because he. feels. four. sandwiches. per. person. is . not enough.

And no, the bathrooms? Hah!

  1. So I assume I don’t need to thaw anything for dinner after this party? My husband will have to fend for himself since he has declined your generous offer of hospitality. I will laugh heartily when I return home and don’t cook.

  2. The food was quite delicious. On the way home, Rebecca told me that the fishies were her favorite. I rather enjoyed the pigs in blankets. I didn’t even notice the crock pots full of soup until I was already full.Don’t tell Gary, but the ham, turkey, and rolls were pretty yummy too.

  3. Caroline and Friend #3 – you’d better not have gone out to eat after. You’ll notice I did not bring any of that ham in to work. That’s MY ham.Sherri – you are right, he is feeding the world, one suburb at a time. Catherine – I’ll have to send you the close-ups.

Comment, even if you aren't on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
