Well, by some amazing chance I thought about sunset and moonset at just the right moment, and I did get to see the Old moon in the New moon’s arms at 6:28 yesterday evening, just as the sky was pinkening.
Of course it required the binoculars to reduce the glare of the crescent, but it was pretty cool. I guess I could have been looking at some pink peripheral sunlight instead of earthshine, but I saw the dim disc of the earth’s shadow, then I saw the topography of the craters on the edge of the illuminated crescent.
Gary would have seen it too, but he took so long putting on his shoes and coat just to go out in the garage that the moon was behind the trees by then.
I would be mad, but I’ve already set an Alexa reminder for 28 days from now.

This is amazing! I love the moon. I have the moon app so I always know when it’s a full moon and whatever else is going on with it. So lovely and peaceful.
Lisa – I’ve got StarWalk2. It takes a few more steps to see the moon if you have no idea where it is, but it is compass-driven so you can use the ipad as a map. I did see the gibbous moon recently, and the binoculars really make the craters clear.
