Gary considers his voting options

Now that the election’s only about a month away, Gary’s considering how to do his civic duty in his current sickly state.

Back when the bleeding sores were sapping all his strength, he felt he might need the wheelchair if he was going to wait in line for hours. I hauled the mystery hospital wheelchair up from the basement (after the requisite half hour of NO YOU CAN’T HAUL THAT WHEELCHAIR UP THE STEPS IT’S TOO HEAVY YOU WILL KILL YOURSELF AND DAMAGE THE WHEELCHAIR).

That reassured him he could wait in line in comfort.

However, now that the steroids compromise his immune system (as he reminds me each time I try to hold his hand) he’s even considering early voting, which in Missouri is called “in-person absentee voting”. No lines, supposedly.

He’s in charge of getting this set up. I anticipate we will be back in line in early November.

  1. … won’t he be on a much lower dose of steroid in a month? With a weekly taper, that is usually how that works…
(of course, 1. that also means he will likely have less energy and 2. it may also mean his skin will be crankier again, if it has reduced in crankiness, or it may not [I have Sample Cases among friends and family on both “steroids long-term squash inflammation issues” and also “oh, hmph, that one came back when the steroids went away”])

  2. KC – I think if steroids didn’t work the next step would be to try antibiotics. He does not have any mania so far, and he still has dreadful aches. But it is early days. He says his skin feels a bit better. He doesn’t have that overwhelming sense of good health that I did, though. Poor fella.

  3. Ohhh that is rough, to have the negative side effects of steroids without even the (spurious) feeling of good health.
(that said: it is probably good for everyone’s sanity that there be limited mania from him?)
I hope his skin continues to feel a bit better, and a bit better than that, and so on…

  4. KC – I am giving him a wide berth today. I already tossed him out of one room for saying “DON’T ARGUE WITH ME.”

Comment, even if you aren't on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
