This week Mom on a Boat did NOT progress, because I was carried away doing a repair paint job on the water and dog-damaged floor by my back door.
It won’t be a true paint progress post, because I didn’t bother taking the before photo. If I had, you would see a round black spot in the photo below where Mac the dog had defiantly peed on the table leg for fifteen years.
Sanding it down left me with a grey spot instead, and staining it was not cutting it. I realized I had two paintbrushes designed to paint hair and wood grain, and I had accidentally bought a wood paint repair kit once when I meant to buy a tile paint repair kit. It isn’t perfect, but it’s less in my face now.
The water damage was much harder to correct. I was frustrated because the spot sanding was taking so long, and all I had afterward were more areas of dead grey that looked worse after I stained them.
Here’s the after.
All the light spots are augmented with paint. Still water-damaged, but better, less dark and blotchy.
And because I can hear you all when you collectively think the same thing, yes, if I had any sense I would have just put a carpet over it.
I might still have to do that, because it was getting dark when I started. I could wake up and see something that looks like Crayola fingerpaints.

Congratulations! May it look good by daylight. 🙂 Or at least good enough. (but yes, a rug is always an option, even if you don’t want wall-to-wall carpet!)
KC – well, it looked okay, but when I put on the clear coat it all mixed in. Water-based.
Oh phooey. Harrumph. Anything you can do to fix it?
KC – I should have read the instructions. I was supposed to mix the color with a putty. Putty is on order.
