There should be clouds of daffodils this month. I put out at least 60 bulbs, and this time they’re surrounded by tiny subterranean chicken wire cages. Hah HA you voles and squirrels.
I love the daffodills so much, you would think I’d put out snowdrops and crocuses too, but no.
Maybe next year. Definitely next year.

Daffodils like it here, and grape hyacinth do really well for me, too (regular hyacinth, less so). I haven’t tried snowdrops yet, but my crocuses very slowly die out instead of slowly increasing in population (see: certain colors of daffodils and irises, which end up needing to be thinned rather than replanted!).
It has been weird seeing which things are Sturdy Reliables in which gardens/lawns, though. Tulips hate it in our garden here (if they come up at all, they have little 5″ stubby-for-a-tulip stems) but loved our last garden on the East Coast, as did the crocuses.
Someday, though, maybe snowdrops…
KC – every other yard in our area has irises / flags, I can’t get them to grow at all, even if I dig up all the dirt and replace it.
We have them growing in absolutely terrible dirt, so maybe that is the problem? Your dirt is too nice? I also don’t know what they want in terms of water.
But yeah. Gardening is mysterious sometimes!
(oh! forgot to mention that if you have an agricultural school nearby, you can get actual personalized info on these things sometimes. If you want it, which you are not required to.)
KC – oh, my Mom did that once, but she was so experienced already she guessed all the results.
