Saint Louisans already know that the armyworms have reached O’Fallon Illinois, right across the Mississippi.
I’ve been surveying my tiny little estate looking for evidence. Haven’t seen the post-larval two-toned moth with the white lower wings, but I did see an egg ball.
I would hope the raccoons would earn their peanuts by eating the nocturnal armyworms, but they are fat lazy assholes.
I do have a brown patch out back, and I did pour soapy water on it, and then I did fantasize about xeriscapes, but there were no armyworm boots in the ground. I remain vigilant again the invading horde.

Wow, is this timely. We just got an email from our yard guy that they were seeing this in a lot of yards and wanted to spray for them. (Which, fine!) But I’d never ever heard of them until this year and apparently they’re rampant. Sure enough, we have a few brown spots as well. I think I’ll try your treatment next time!
Lisa – yes, same here. Never heard of army worms before, now our pest people say they aren’t across the River. I am all set though if I hear.
