This seems so quaint now. But you know what the difference is?
Bush and Gore were both adults, though under stress they both reverted to sulky, snippy adolescents. In December of 2000 I felt that I would take either one of them just to get it over with.
Twenty years later we are watching a battle between an adult and a ten-year-old (and I’m being generous).

Just checked the Washington Post. Time to celebrate!
It will be (kind of) interesting and amusing to see how Trump proceeds from here. I hope we can restore some normalcy to our country. Still, it is so disturbing that over 40% of the population thinks Trump was a good president. How can the be???
Yes! As the hubs said, it’s so incredibly disappointing that so many people in this country thought Trump was still the way to go after 4 years of narcissistic, sociopathic behavior. It’s like he was the id of the worst of us all and a lot of people thought that was good. Let’s hope things at least move (even if slowly) towards bringing us together. (Or is that just too much to ask?)
Arlene – my operating theory about Trump fans is they feel more loyalty to country than they do to the globe. I feel more of a citizen of the world, so that makes me less of a patriot. I admire their patriotism but it’s a shame that “America First” misses the bigger picture.
Lisa – it seems like the only thing that would bring us all together is to have a centrist president that disappoints everyone.
I understand the globalist position and agree that it’s the best for the long game. (Although really hard to manage in many/most aspects.) I guess that some of the America First/ Make America Great Again stance is due to a real decline in quality of life for many working class Americans since the global economy began to take off during the Clinton years. Surely a better quality of life for many (think China and India, most obviously). But, a real decline for a lot of the less educated Americans. A little bit of socialism might help here.
Arlene – I hope so. I fear socialism for them is okay as long as it isn’t socialism for others. Perhaps the next generation will accept it.
