Dad’s Taste

I know that there’s no accounting for taste, and it takes all kinds, but my Dad had the most vile taste in food. These were his favorites:

  • Black licorice
  • Head cheese
  • Olive jalapeño loaf

He also liked hard liquor, cheap beer, chalky chocolate, fried bologna, strong coffee, and saltines with butter.

All I can guess is that all the smoking killed his taste buds and he had no idea what he was eating.

This Ancestry research makes me wonder what would happen if he’d had his own biological children. What foods would they have preferred? Braunschweiger, I suppose, and mustard. Testicles. Limburger. And those children would LOVE their testicle limburger braunschweiger loaf sandwiches and say, like Dad, “You don’t know what you’re missing.”

  1. All I can think of when I read limburger is the Three Stooges episode (specifically Curly/boxing). Random, but my dad and I always watched them before I headed to school when I was a kid. And I do love licorice, but I draw the line at olive/jalapeño loaf, lol.

  2. Lisa – I like that your father had you start the day with the stooges. That’s smart-it would get you out of bed.
