Review: The Winter’s Tale

Othello / Tempest mashup: Winter’s Tale.

Like Shakespeare must have used up lines he cut.

The end’s a lot to swallow. Not a fan.

It’s famed for bear pursuits, yet no bears shown!

Still Judi Dench is worth admission price.

.. and I have to give up on the iambic pentameter to talk about a new word I learned: “bed-swerver.” How do you fit “bed-swerver” into iambic pentameter? He has:

But with her most vile principal, that she’s
A bed-swerver, even as bad as those
That vulgars give bold’st titles, ay, and privy
To this their late escape.

So that must be “a BED swerVER.” I don’t know. If I were Shakespeare I would bend the rules for “bed-swerver.”

(And technically, they waved a sheet with an image of a bear on it, but I was looking forward to a full-on bear costume for the “exit, pursued by a bear.”)
