Resolutions

Well, the first resolution for 2013 is to organize the basement. Here’s the before photo. If you click you might find the Stooges.

LIGHT
DARK

The second resolution requires some background. A few years after my Dad died of lung cancer (still smoking on his deathbed) my Aunt began to die of type 2 diabetes. I visited her in the hospital and complained that it seemed people I love would rather die than change their habits.

She said, “Well, you know,it’s easy to change when you’re 25, but when you’re over fifty it’s almost impossible to change.” Of course, she died a few months later (begging candy bars off her brother till the end).

So, now that I’m fifty, I resolve to change.

First I’ll stop smoking. Done! Damn, that was easy. I never started smoking! And … dessert only twice a week? That sounds reasonable.

  1. They say you cannot lose weight when you are over 50. I am 53 now and since a year ago this past Thanksgiving I have lost over 40 lbs by just not eating a lot of crap. I still eat at buffets here and there but have cut chocolate out nearly completely and quit snacking at night.
Saying you can’t make changes when you are older is just BS excuse making.

  2. I’ve vowed to give up sweets – not forever, but until my weight starts to land in a more comfortable range. I might have to add other junk food to the verboten list too – but I need to lose weight this year.

  3. Zayrina – I need to cut out snacking and desserts. After I finish all the snacks and desserts in the house.
Amy in StL – The doctor wants me to drop 13 pounds by September. How hard can that be?
Lena McGill – (Hello!) Really? Because I did show you the deplorable state of my basement.
Hattie – Your basement – how did you do it? All at once or in small spurts?

Comment, even if you aren't on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
