I recently enjoyed this article from Cracked.com: The Five Worst Marketing Ideas Ever Put Into Action. (I remember Ayds in particular.)
And then this week, Schnucks, the grocery chain here in Saint Louis, decided to introduce the Sixth Worst Marketing Idea Ever.
Schnucks was all in the news a few months ago for sickening salad bar customers with e-Coli contaminated lettuce. We ALL knew about it. We ALL avoided the Schnucks salad bar. Gary stopped eating salads entirely.
Schnucks feels we have forgotten. They’ve introduced this commercial. A commercial bragging that the USDA food inspectors are there at the Schnucks kitchens every SINGLE day. Not like those slackers at Dierbergs, no no. God KNOWS when they see their health inspectors.
Caroline said her first response was “E-COLI!”
My response was to scream at the screen, “Wash your hands, how about that? Then you wouldn’t need inpectors watching your every move every day.”
Bad move, Schnucks. Too soon.

Enh, they won’t have the inspector out there every day. They’ll just make the assistant manager park her ten year old Nissan in the spot.
