WANT / Do not want

WANT

Gary and I were on the road Saturday and we saw this:

Coupe

A 2012 Mini Cooper S Coupe. Come. Come to me baby. Sweet baby. You get your spoiler into my garage. Ah, but I have a car, and it’s paid for. Whore car! Tempting me.

Pasta

You know how I get in to a hobby (stained glass, guitar), think I’m really into it and buy an expensive accessory (adjustable glass cutter, bass) and then completely lose interest in that hobby? So this time, I’m buying the expensive accessory BEFORE I start the hobby.

Pasta

Kitchenaid Cthulhu or fresh pasta attachment? Gary claims it tastes better than dried pasta. Of course, I didn’t use semolina or special additives. And I got the ravioli maker too, since it would seem Gary loves ravioli.

DO NOT WANT

I watched an orgy of Painted Lady butterflies in the yard. Ten of them trying to attach all at the same time. One landed on the Weber kettle right by the vent. That’s why I was watching the BBQ kettle vent when a wasp crawled out of it.

I lifted the lid and didn’t see any other wasps, but I don’t want a wasp’s nest in a place I have fire. You’d think you could have either wasps or fire, but I’m pretty sure I would have a hybrid of the two things I fear most: firewasps.

And speaking of insects, we’ve had a rash of baby squirrels out back. Gross. So many of them, and they move so fast, it’s like they’re insects too. Squirrelroaches.

  1. I saw that mini in traffic and didn’t get a good look at it so I wondered if it was a weird convertible or what. I figured I don’t eat enough pasta to buy the attachment for my Kitchenaid. If you get tired of it, I’ll gladly give it a home.

  2. I like that car, but what’s hanging out of that machine’s nose?
Actually, I like Italian pasta best, cooked al dente. There is quite a quality variation from the worst to the best pastas, and it makes a difference.

  3. Magpie – it is adorable in person. But I tell myself it is not classic, and I am classic.Amy in StL – I was pressured in to it by Gary proclaiming his love of ravioli. He suggested I fill it with home made ricotta cheese.Hattie – That’s pasta snot. Does italian pasts have that semolina flour in it? I still have to buy that.

  4. Hattie – I cannot believe I missed one of my favorites jokes! What’s that coming out of the nose of that machine? S’not pasta!

  5. Your KA Pasta attachment is different from mine; mine also doubles as the meat grinder (really, it’s the grinder attachment with pasta plates). I found it was hard on the mixer, so I bought a pasta machine (which was much cheaper than buying the KA roller). I agree with Gary, though, that homemade pasta has it ALL over store bought stuff…

  6. Ooh! Buy the semolina, it’s friggin’ delicious. Want.
I had a wasp’s nest in a BBQ grill once. I asked an insane friend to take it out by fire. He started a stream of hairspray at the nest at night “when they’d be sleeping”, and then set it on fire. The wasps all woke up and attacked him, and yes, some of them were on fire. The good news is that the nest *did* burn, so while that was a spectacularly stupid plan, it did, in the end, work.

  7. Christy – Okay, I’ll have to believe you. I don;t see it but I haven’t fdone a taste test yet.Tami – bought the semolina, haven’t used it yet. Firey wasps FTW! I borrow a decoy wasps nest from my inlaws. We found a wasp today in the bathroom. Hoping it works.

  8. Ooh! Young Mike found a giant wasp in the basement when he went down to get his throwing axes, so he took it’s head clean off with an axe while it was in midair! I would not believe it if I had not seen it.
He throws axes and knives at targets. Apparently it’s a sport.
