Genetics

Wilma’s still fine. I know I’ve been spending my time away from my blog this weekend, and I’d think that was reasonable if I’d spent any of it with the S______s. But instead I just stayed tucked in with MY S______.

Gary and I went to visit Wilma in the ICU on Saturday at noon, but Gary felt pretty sick and didn’t want to infect anyone, and Karen said I was too germy to help Wilma eat, and then Wilma essentially told everyone to get out, she wanted to rest. Everyone left, except Karen. I don’t know what happened, but there are now “doctor’s orders” that no one visit Wilma for the next two days. I’m guessing a nurse heard Wilma beg us to leave her alone and listened to her.

We visited Gary’s father, Ken, and made sure he had enough food, and then left. I think Gary would like to take his dad to eat at Steak-n-Shake every night. I know he was planning on a little Waffle House therapy for himself.

And that’s the thing, now that there’s a history of heart attacks in Gary’s family (Wilma and two siblings), how do we provide ourselves comfort? Cholesterol IS comfort. Saturday morning, we got as far as choosing Egg McMuffins over McBagels, and I made my sweet baby a cholesterol-free pie. A Gary Pie, which is two frozen pie crusts and three cans of pie filling (strawberry, cherry, and raspberry).

Of course, tornadoes are headed our way, so that’s a more immediate problem.

  1. Becs-Didn’t seem heavy. It was built and baked on top of a cookie sheet, so I can’t judge.
