The story: The nut job pastor in Florida who wants to have a Koran bonfire on 9/11.
“Who?” Foreign Dots may be puzzled. The Korean Dot says, “누구지?”
Really, I hope this story hasn’t spread to other countries. If you haven’t heard the story, I could fill you in. I could link you to Yahoo, where the breaking news pops and crackles like a bonfire, but I won’t give you that link. Because I don’t want FOX News to be better than me.
Fox News was the first “off” the story. Evidently, they caught on early that this pastor is a nutjob just out for attention, and there are just some people you should ignore. Because they make our country look bad.
Then I heard the AP was going to avert its eyes as well, and not show any video of Korans burning. Then I began to have doubts. Is that self-censorship? Do we want a self-censoring press? Or, is it a press showing restraint and not inciting idiocy? What if Al-Jazeera never showed a tape of Bin Laden?
What if the fire department turns the water hoses on them? What if we had a book-burning and nobody came? Where are the hurricanes when you need them? How about a crowd of Christians with Super Soakers?

It’s been well-reported here, despite our having plenty of news of our own: in fact, I’ve just seen pictures on the TV news of the crazy loon sitting at his desk with his gun laid at his elbow.
I think it’s ok not to show the pictures of the flames, which would, in the circumstances, be fairly described as incitement. Trouble is, TV news gets so obsessed about illustrating reports that they forget they have the option just to read the words.
I am astounded any news media is laying off- one of the best pieces of news, from the news, in ages as far as I’m concerned. As a resident of the Sunshine State, I would like to offer up a big *facepalm* apology to everyone else. The joys of freedom- he has the right to burn someone else’s holy book, and I have the right to call him an utter idiot. *sigh*
Big Dot – well, damn. Did you see the moustache? That’s what gets us. Worse than the gun.
Elisabeth – Florida is a crazy state. Still haven’t gotten over Bush v Gore. I hear Jen Bush might run. It’s good to know some Floridians are sensible.
i do not understand why he is doing this. that’s the part the gets me. is it that he hates the koran? this makes no sense. what is the point of this display he is planning?okgood times. SUPERSOAKERS ROCK!
Elisabeth, you have our sincere sympathy. Missouri has no room to boast – we certainly have a fair number of bible-thumping, snake-wielding, book-burning crackpots. At least you guys have Key West. 🙂
We have our share of religious nutjobs around here. Are they outbreeding us? I don’t remember so much of this craziness in the past. Here is a good rant from the Huff Post about this big media poo:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/10/this-is-how-the-media-wor_n_712229.html
I think it would be great if nobody covered it. Isn’t the best thing with asshat morons to just ignore them? Unless they’re good for our personal entertainment and amusement, of course.
Mrs Hall – Yes, it’s that he thinks Islam is of the Devil.Mershy – Thanks for not correcting what I said to Aliison. Jeb Bush might run. Not Jen Bush.Hattie – That was a good rant. The woman who spoke on the Rachel Maddow show Thursday was good too. Allison – I would think it would be great if protestors surround him with signs in Arabic reading “This man is a tool. He is not one of us.”
