Paper or Plastic

As Gary and I went through the grocery checkout, the bagboy asked, “Do you want this watermelon in a bag?”

Gary paused just for a split second, just long enough for me to wonder if he was deciding between a recyclable bag or plastic or …

“No thanks,” Gary said, “We’ll just eat it in the car.”

  1. I couldn’t tell you how many tedious exchanges like that I’ve headed off by putting my henbag on the counter. It’s a bit like the Pez dispenser in Seinfeld.

  2. I love this! I can just sense the pause before his answer — stellar delivery!
P.S. I can’t even take my hen purse to church anymore — ONCE, just ONCE, I filled it with candy and had “Henrietta” watch my choir rehearsal with the kids…promising them a reward from her if she thought their rehearsal was good. Well, now every time they see “Henrietta” they think they will get candy. 🙁 I created a monster.

  3. 3 – Good, because I worried you would be disappointed. jessica fantastica – He is, and usually when I don;t expect it. Big Dot – Thank Erin G, she turned me on to the Chicken purse (henbag in New Zealandese).Amy in StL – I’m going to have to guess yu meant that for me, but it could have been for Big Dot’s hen bag comment. Erin G – Aw, man! That inspires me to take mine to work on Friday. Since I don;t go to church, you know. Caroline – I think you were the one who commented on how preachy the Dierberg’s black earth-friendly bags were. I really expected him to go get one of them.

  4. Heh!BTW, is it just me or am I the only one that forgets to take those reusable shopping bags back to the store to use again?

  5. Greenwords – I guffawed right there in the grocery.Rayleen – No, Gary has about 10 in his trunk. He just gets into the store and buys more.
