There’s a bear less than 50 miles away, as is their wont in summer.
I’m surprised we haven’t had a baby raccoon visitation yet.
Deer update: a neighbor reported seeing a lost fawn in his front shrubbery. I will worry about that baby deer for the rest of my life.

There’s always a rumor that there is a coyote skulking around the big county park near here. Given that it is 2026, I bet there are also bears there. And of course there are raccoons. And skunks, without a doubt.
Are you HOPING for a visit from a baby raccoon? I shudder at the thought.
This afternoon I heard creepy sounds in the house. I think there might be chipmunks in the walls again.
All that is to say, I like the IDEA of nature, as long as it doesn’t get too close to me.

And I absolutely heard a mouse squeaking by the basement ceiling as it tried to get in from the yard. I banged on all the wood we have blocking access to that corner and he stopped. Nature can get close but I don’t want to clean its poop.
