TWGL: Plural of fetus

Gary was talking about childbirth, and plural childbirth, and said something like “There would just be too many feti to be able to” [blah blah didn’t get past “feti”].

I said, “Feti? Did you mean fetuses?”

Gary bristled and said, “Octopus, octopi, fetus, feti.”

When asked, Judge Alexa ruled that “the plural of octupus is octopi or octopuses, depending on personal preference” yet “the plural of fetus is fetuses.”

(I added, “The plural of hippopotamus is hippopotamuses.”)
