Weeding

Just a week ago I complained that I had no cicadas.

That has changed.

They swarm the skies.

They cling to my clothes.

They bone on my driveway.

They are intruding on my life. I can only garden before dawn or after eight at night. I have a filthy garden wagon in the back, and I can’t go out to wash the raccoon poop out of it, so it’s just been waiting for a thunderstorm. The baby raccoons aren’t coming to feed in our yard because they can stick their heads out of their dens and cicadas will fly directly into their mouths. God help any bands with outdoor concerts. God help anyone who signed up for the pre-opera picnic.

One latched on to me and got into the house yesterday. Gary immediately protected the cat. I just trapped the thing in the bathroom and crushed it and flushed it. Since then I have had to use the garage as an airlock and inspect myself for passengers.

Tonight I go out to a social event at a restaurant. I’m just going to put my head down and run across the parking lot.

  1. … are they reading your blog? That’s a pretty big (albeit intermittent) audience right there…

  2. KC – I doubt cicadas can read. However, if so, I can see how they would have felt that I would welcome them based on last week’s post. They can leave now.

Comment, even if you aren’t on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
