This week I started on a croquet ball in a recumbent latex glove mold. (What shall I call it? Return to Basic Shapes? Unambiguous Easy Colors? Eschewing Photoshop?)

I think this is going to be a real bear to paint, which is probably good for your development as a painter (and at seeing contrasts and colors “truly” instead of being over-influenced by what’s proximate). I look forward to the results!
KC – I do’n t think it will be hard. This is basic shading. Of simple shapes.
KC – except for the painters tape, which is a cylinder, the hardest of all simple shapes.
Right, but you’ll have to fight how you *think* the curves/shapes should look and how the relative adjacent colors (brightness/darkness/highlights) make them look to the interpretive vs. the absolute values relative to the whole painting. I will be interested as to how it goes!
(… no matter what, it will not look as wrong as humans usually look when painted, though. So. There is that: you did just paint Gary successfully, so maybe this will be an absolute walk in the park. But there are challenges here for accurate sight!)
KC – I vote for walk in the park. I’m also painting on a higher-quality canvas, so that may help.
