Croup, Again

Oh, good lord, I’ve caught the croup again.

Last time I had to cancel a party. This time at least I have no parties planned. Well, except the party in my pants, which the croup is successfully suppressing.

It was just my little cat cough until yesterday morning, when it deepened in tone and came from lower in my chest. The doctor says it’s croup, parainfluenza, which is “going around.” Skipping normal adults, attaching to me.

It is a comfort to know that I didn’t catch it at the movie theater. The cough began the Thursday before. Can’t think of where it came from.

Maybe the dentist! I can blame the dentist.

  1. Gary, clearly.
(but actually maybe just from surfaces/food/groceries? Flu lives on surfaces more than covid does, if I recall correctly.)

  2. Oh, yeah, if you did in fact see the dentist in person and it was the right time period, then yes, that would be it! I thought you were blaming age-old dental advice from your dentist or something, because I didn’t remember the dentist in your social schedule for the month and therefore didn’t think you’d seen a dentist in person, but normal people don’t consider the dentist as part of their social schedule…

  3. *nods* That’d be it. Dentist Croup.
(I got a whiff of Tag Agency air today, as I failed to get my mask quite back on before breathing after having my driver’s license photo taken. It did reassure me that the n95 mask is still fitting without air gaps – whew, hello air freshener in that one breath – but also oops, and we’ll hope no germs were in that particular mouthful of air…)

  4. KC – have to translate for St. Louisians – Tag Agency is where you go to get your car tags, like our DofT.

  5. … yeah, it is weird, actually, I was forgetting that. All three other states I have lived in: DMV for licenses. Here, sometimes DMV (vision check, etc.), then tag agency for renewals, sometimes just tag agency. I have no idea.
(things other people were getting done included boat things and getting a lien taken off… something… and wife’s name added to the title for… something. and obviously also driver’s licenses/ID cards.)

  6. Well, except that to get or renew your driver’s license, you always need to go to the tag agency anyway, just sometimes you have to go to the DMV first. So: two lines, whee!
However, two *shorter* lines because we’re in a teeny tiny city. I would bet it’d be faster for many people to drive an hour+ from OKC or Tulsa just for our short DMV and tag agency lines, having heard tales of the wait time in some of those locations.
Also the option has opened up of being able to renew online, but have heard the saga about how it takes at least 2x the estimated time to actually get the license (and you don’t have a temp)(this is the most bogglingly bureaucratically-incompetent state we’ve lived in yet, and we’ve lived in *New Jersey*). Plus I wanted RealID for the TSA checkin option and you can’t do that online. So! There we went.
