I am certain everybody who wants to avoid their daily duty of writing dodges it by researching why it took Margaret Mitchell ten years to write Gone With the Wind.
Turns out there are some interesting details, especially in this article by, of course, National Public Radio.
Legend says that the publisher only had two suggestions: change the heroine’s name from “Pansy” O’Hara to something else, and make the first chapter (“Frankly my dear”) be the last (I suppose the other chapters were in flashback.)
So sad she was run over and killed, and sad that she was so determined no one else could ever see early drafts. The one book she wrote as a teenager was revealed in thr 90s by an ex-boyfriend, I’m sure she wouldn’t have wanted that out there.
