How was this ever okay? The term Indian became controversial in my adult life, somehow — I mean, we knew we didn’t live in India — but the grinning mascot could not ever have been okay. Could it?
I like the new name better … but, couldn’t the cartoon fastball have used more work?
It’s less offensive, sure, but it’s no Cardinal’s logo.
(Cool logos, even though the intertwined letters were stolen from the Catholic church.)

The giant grin also exists in the logo for an Oklahoma institution, Eskimo Joe’s. (which people get uneasy about occasionally)
I like the bird-with-a-baseball-bat, myself, but so it goes. and did they seriously swipe those particular intertwined letters from the Catholic church??? That is bizarre and also why does the Catholic church have monograms?
KC – Napoleon’s tomb in Paris is in the church of Saint Louis, and like all Saint Louisans Gary and I spotted the familiar logo, which is on the mezzanine, I believe. Now, you can’t find a word about that in the history of the logo, so maybe it wasn’t deliberate. They also claim the name Cardinal comes from the bird, but it’s a spooky coincidence.
