We had no plans to see Cats because – I am sure you agree – we have seen enough movies lately, and also because what could be more plotless than a movie based on a book of poetry? However, after reading this article about the flaws in the digitized Cats, I deeply regret not having seen the Beta version of Cats.
I hope someone keeps the early release and turns it into a cult film where everyone throws rice when they see Dame Judi Dench’s wedding ring.
Here’s what I don’t get: everyone seems put off by the celebrities digitized into cats. If they were going for realism, why didn’t they just use real cats? They’ve got a version of Lady and the Tramp with dogs. Get video of cats howling and mewling, then tweak the lips a little digitally to make one of them sing Memory. Make that a trailer and see if it goes over better than Cats 2019.
