Gary’s New Driving Role

Gary has made some poor driving decisions lately. They haven’t been unsafe, just alarming. He gets distracted, especially if he’s busy declaiming about something, and he turns off his brain and drives by muscle memory. There are stoplights near our house, and if no one else is around to follow, he will stop at the stoplight, which is fine, only often the stoplight is green. I don’t react well when he does this.

I am happy to say that he’s decided I can take over driving duties when we’re together. He can expound and I can drive though the green lights. Granted, he feels a little useless, but then it occurred to him that if there is an accident, the passenger can hurl himself between the driver and the steering wheel. That way, if the airbag doesn’t deploy, Gary will absorb the impact.

He calls this “being the bloodbag.”
