Extreme Garying

Last Friday, Full Day of Retirement #1.

Gary: “Well, we should get the best family plan to include my new iPhone, and it only makes sense to spend the extra ten bucks to add cell service to our iPads, because then we can use them anywhere.”

Yesterday, Day #6 of Retirement.

Gary: “I put the coupons that came in the mail in that basket. DON’T TOUCH THEM! I’m going through them later!”

I have been pleading with him to look at the budget, so he can realize he doesn’t need to swing between extremes. There’s a comfy enough place in between, called Reality, and Reality is fine. He refuses.

On the other hand, I suspect I can coax Penny Pincher Gary into calling the Trash company and getting our yard waste / trash service down from the scandalous $65 a month they charge now. I see why Waste Management companies are rumored to be run by the Mafia. Yeah, I said it.

  1. Where I live, we don’t need no stinkin’ trash collection. We do it ourselves. There are small trash collector outfits, but we prefer to take stuff to the dump ourselves. Terry likes to sort the bottles and recyclables. We compost all kitchen waste by burying in the backyard. Every once in a while we borrow someone’s pickup to take downed palm fronds and such to the green waste. Smaller yard waste we grind up ourselves in our nifty grinder. When I say “we,” I mean Terry, of course!
It is kind of third worldy around here.

  2. Becs – Really? Not a cliche? Bastards.
Hattie – that is fascinating. I tried to search out the garbage dumps in our area but they all seem to be owned by the waste management companies.

  3. After hearing what my mom pays to WM for trash collection I was shocked! She’s driving down to their office to get her senior discount started, but holy cow they’ve got your number! Meanwhile, in the city we get huge dumpsters to fill with our stuff and copious alley space to place things we hope the reusers come and get.

  4. Amy in StL – Well, I cant dump them until they pick up the bin with six boxes of Gary’s old books from work which well exceeds the 40 lb weight limit.

  5. Caroline -thanks for the heads up! They came in cheapest and I signed up on the phone. 45 a quarter beats 200 a quarter.
